OVERVIEW

Vertex is currently accepting applications for full-time, permanent Intermediate Environmental Scientist(s) – Assessment & Remediation to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and executing upstream oil and gas and industrial projects in accordance with Vertex guidelines and project scopes. This role will focus on assessment & remediation projects including, development of work plans and cost estimates, conducting assessment and remediation work, spill response and remediation, and supervision of light duty reclamation work. This individual will play a critical role in the execution of all aspects of the project while delivering a cost-effective approach that exceeds our client's expectations.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma or higher education related to environmental sciences, biology or other related discipline
  • Currently poses a professional designation (or in training designation) applicable for conducting professional sign off in Alberta and/or Saskatchewan
  • Minimum 3 years of environmental work experience with three or more of the following:
  • Phase I and Phase II program execution
  • Remediation
  • Groundwater monitoring
  • Spill response
  • Detailed Site Assessments
  • Experience in the upstream oil and gas industry
  • Willingness to work in the field for extended periods of time; willingness to travel within Western Canada as required
  • Excellent communication and technical reporting skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of contaminated sites and reclamation regulations in Alberta and Saskatchewan

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Spend up to 70% of work hours performing technical field activities on environmental projects, which may include:
  • Environmental Assessments (Phase I and II)
  • Remediation – supervision and management of remedial excavations
  • Spill response
  • Groundwater monitoring
  • Reclamation supervision
  • Regulatory submissions
  • Responsible for project coordination, cost control and project scoping to ensure effectively versatile solutions are developed to meet client's regulatory needs and budgets;
  • Responsible for both field and office execution of environmental projects with an emphasis on field work
  • Active stewardship of Vertex and client safety programs is expected
  • Responsible to build relationships within Vertex, with regulators and clients to effectively develop and manage projects within the environmental business unit
  • Mentor and coach junior environmental staff

This position will be based out of our Sherwood Park or Calgary offices.
