Hybrid Role:
This is a hybrid position; you will be required to work at the WestJet Campus in Calgary approximately 2-3 days / week.
Candidates need to be located within Calgary Metropolitan Region.

Reporting to the Director, Strategic Procurement, this individual contributor will bring proven strategic leadership in strategic procurement as it relates to category management, strategic sourcing, contract life cycle management, and supplier relationship management, focused on Categories related to Direct Operations 3rd party areas of spend (i.e. Aircraft engines, maintenance, modifications, lease & related activities, Ground handling (ATW/BTW), and other commercial aircraft related projects ).

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain category strategies in close collaboration with Technical Operations, Airports, Fleet and other internal business stakeholders.
  • Develop and foster internal customer relationships with stakeholders to understand business objectives & roadmaps, in addition to supplier relationships.
  • Liaise with internal category teams, and business partners to gain a comprehensive understanding of business requirements establishing short-term and long-term objectives to support the business roadmap
  • Lead the efforts for strategic sourcing activities and contract renewals (scoping, spend analysis, sourcing, negotiating, contracting).
  • Lead the RFx process, the development of negotiation strategies, and lead cross-functional teams in negotiations of large value/risk/complex agreements.
  • Conduct market data research, investigate supplier capabilities, and analyze industry best practices and technology trends to drive competitive advantage.
  • Ensure compliance with purchasing policies and procedures, ethical practices, and adherence to relevant laws and regulations.
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies that directly affect company financial results and growth plans.
  • Manage supplier contracts, governance, and control programs to ensure delivery of expectations and comply with corporate and regulatory policies.
  • Drive and report Procurement Key Performance Indicators including cost savings, spend under management, supplier rationalization, etc.
  • Ensure organizational financial goals and annual objectives are met with a focus on tracking savings initiatives.
  • Create, drive, and implement (with the collaboration of the Strategic Procurement Leadership Team) initiatives to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of procurement processes.

Knowledge and Skills

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in leading & executing strategic projects, developing category strategy, strategic procurement, contract management, and experience within designated categories.
  • Be a self-starter capable of quickly engaging with numerous stakeholders across diverse scopes and lead initiatives to successful execution. Exceptional agility, communication, contract negotiation, contract writing, and resourcefulness are essential to excel in this role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in categories related to the aerospace industry, mechanical engines, or heavy maintenance (aerospace product configuration & basic aircraft assembly/build sequencing to support emergent and routine aircraft production is considered an asset).
  • Excellent relationship-building, interpersonal, and communication (verbal and written) skills required.
  • Knowledge of source-to-pay tools including e-sourcing, contract management, and spend analytics.
  • Strong negotiation, contracting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced degree (e.g. Bachelor, Master, etc.) or equivalent required, Supply Chain Canada designation considered an asset.
