The Telesat Lightspeed Configuration Management Office will manage the configuration and control of all Lightspeed program hardware, software, documents, and system labs and ensure Change Control Boards are executed in accordance with approved Telesat processes. The CMO helps drive the Lightspeed Program by coordinating information management, providing support through data analysis, tools management and implementation, and contributing to the overall strategy development and performance evaluation of complex program operations. The CMO also works closely with the Systems Engineering team and in particular with the System Integration, Verification and Validation team.

As the Manager of Configuration Management & Change Control, you will lead your team in developing and maturing control systems, ensuring procedures are well documented and training has been designed for the larger Lightspeed team. The ideal candidate has previous experience managing a team of Configuration Management Specialists, and is enthusiastic about being part of a diverse and highly effective team.

Responsibilities - Specific responsibilities include:

  • Establish/Maintain program CM systems, including defining/updating Configuration Management Processes and Procedures
  • Ensure Training and mentoring is provided to the organization on Configuration Management services, concepts, policies and procedures
  • Manage Configuration Control Boards (CCB) and enact changes as directed
  • Review and publish configuration management reporting.
  • Oversee day to day maintenance of an inventory of hardware assets with details about operating system versions, patch status, installed applications, and other relevant information
  • Work with domain experts, evaluate best tools to use and make recommendations, harmonizing different tools amongst vendors where possible and understanding licensing strategy to manage costs
  • Manage Tools configuration and coordinate version controls according to an established process for various tools such as SharePoint, JIRA, JAMA, Primavera, etc.
  • Provide appropriate access to various support tools used by Lightspeed Team (Jama/Jira/SharePoint/Document Centre)

Education & Experience - Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science, or a related discipline; or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience.
  • 10+ years experience in engineering or related field in configuration management handling, documentation, software, hardware assets, and engineering labs.
  • 5+ years experience working in an Engineering design environment, interfacing with Hardware, Systems, Software, and Test Engineers
  • Experience using Software configuration management processes and tools
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary, high-performing system or product development teams
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in dealing with clients, internal and external stakeholders, senior management and staff including both technical and non-technical individuals
  • Must demonstrate a flexible, open-minded attitude and have strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience effectively leading meetings and facilitating groups
  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Evident ability to identify emerging and innovation solutions and then craft them to address current and future technology challenges.

Education & Experience - Asset

  • 5-7+ years of related experience in Data Management or Configuration Management.
  • CM2-C/CM2-P (CM2 Comprehensive/CM2 Professional) Certification
  • Bilingual in English and French an asset (but not required)

Decision Making

  • The ability to make informed decisions in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Provide advice to engineering and program management related to technical and schedule risk.
