Senior Technical Specialist - Responsible Systems Engineer: Nuclear Systems

About the Role
  • Provide technical expertise and advice for troubleshooting plant equipment, defining and planning Major Component Replacement (MCR) scope, and asset preservation during layup.
  • Support the Section Manager in providing Nuclear Systems related expertise within the section.
  • Provide support and mentoring of other engineers in the section and support operations and maintenance personnel as needed.
Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze station technical problems and respond to Engineering Input Requests (EIRs), Engineering Requests (ERs), and stakeholder input requests.
  • Assist operations, maintenance, and project staff in resolving nuclear systems technical problems and implementing approved solutions.
  • Provide advice to Operations, Maintenance, and project staff to troubleshoot problems and improve performance of nuclear systems.
  • Keep informed regarding station performance of nuclear systems and identify potential performance issues.
  • Continuously pursue the accumulation of lessons learned and implement them in future MCR units.
  • Work with station staff, project teams, and support staff to solve equipment problems related to MCR units.
  • Assist in the development of staff technical expertise.
  • Keep informed of MCR status and important issues and provide input to operations.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of nuclear power plant nuclear systems design and operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve task results consistent with requirements for safety, quality, quantity, and resource allowance.
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal, and ability to deliver technical presentations to various audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact positively with others and develop trust, mutual respect, and cooperative working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities, deadlines, and heavy workloads.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and be self-motivated.
  • Proven ability to write and review technical documents.
  • Strong leadership skills and high degree of accountability and engagement with team.
  • History of demonstrating strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capability.
  • High degree of initiative, self-motivation, flexibility, and ability to work with minimal guidance or supervision in a team environment.
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplined teams to solve problems.
  • Knowledge of Maximo and ability to search for work orders, material, and action requests.
  • Broad knowledge of station components, systems, and processes, including nuclear.
  • Demonstrated Technical Conscience by bringing concerns forward that would challenge plant safety or production.
  • Multi-disciplinary knowledge of engineering, including mechanical systems and fluid flows.
  • Qualifications in troubleshooting.
Education and Experience
  • Completion of a 4-year bachelor's university degree in Engineering is required.
  • A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
  • P.Eng designation, or the ability to obtain a P.Eng designation is considered an asset.
  • Experience with the design/operation of a CANDU plant nuclear systems is regarded as an asset.
