Effective April 1, 2024 the salary range for this position is $82,217 to $121,155 per year in compliance with AMAPCEO collective agreement provisions.

The new rates, effective retroactive to April 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

The Ministry

Ministry of Health is responsible for administering the health care system and providing services to the Ontario public through such programs as health insurance, drug benefits, assistive devices, mental health and addictions, home care services, community and public health, health promotion and disease prevention.

It also regulates hospitals; operates psychiatric hospitals and medical laboratories; and coordinates emergency health services.

The Branch

The Health Insurance Branch plans, manages, and directs programs and policy related to the Ontario Health Insurance Plan including registration and eligibility for coverage, the Ontario health card, health benefits available outside of Ontario and outside of Canada, including prior approval for treatment outside Canada; and the ministry's subrogation rights under the Plan.

The Branch is also responsible for the Integrated Community Health Services Centre program as outlined under the Integrated Community Health Services Centre Act.

What can I expect to do in this role?In this role, you will:

  • Lead policy and program development in healthcare, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and best practices.
  • Conduct comprehensive research and analysis, including stakeholder consultations, to inform policy recommendations.
  • Evaluate proposals from other jurisdictions, identifying issues needing response, and maintaining awareness of emerging trends.
  • Prepare legislative documents, risk assessments, and guidelines, ensuring compliance and privacy considerations.
  • Monitor program performance, ensures accountability, and provides advice on related policy issues.
  • Manage program agreements, assessing impacts, and advising senior management on contentious issues.
  • Maintain relationships with stakeholders and collaborate with other ministries and jurisdictions.
  • Represent the unit at conferences and forums, lead working groups, and resolve stakeholder concerns.
  • Lead special projects, set priorities, and provide expertise to staff, ensuring effective implementation.
  • Support branch planning, coordinate information requests, and contribute to funding allocation processes.

Relationship Management and Facilitation Skills

  • You have expertise in creating and managing complex stakeholder relationships.
  • You can work collaboratively to resolve issues, negotiate changes and shifts in priorities.
  • You can lead consultations with stakeholders ensuring a shared understanding.
Communication Skills

  • You can respond to issues, provide recommendations and prepare reports using standard computer software.
  • You can create, lead and present briefings on complex issues analysis to senior management.
