The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is currently seeking the services of an experienced Director of Community Services and Recreation to work closely with the Town's senior leadership team while being responsible for the leadership, operation and maintenance of the Town's recreational programming and facilities, and for the development and implementation of community events. Providing services, programs and events to approximately 8,000 citizens, the scope of responsibility for the Director is influential and critical to promoting a healthy lifestyle for the people with vibrant, cultural opportunities for all.
The successful candidate in this senior leadership position with the Town will be someone who has completed a university degree in physical education or community recreation. A business degree with relevant experience, or a combination of education in recreation facilities management with applicable experience may be considered. Diploma-trained candidates with significant applicable experience may also be considered. Ideally, our next Director of Community Services and Recreation will bring demonstrated knowledge and experience in community recreation, program development, and facilities management.
Technical skills and intangible attributes such as high-level emotional intelligence, written and verbal communication, problem solving, and time management skills will be essential to effectively interact and build partnerships with staff, town councillors, residents, community organizations, and other stakeholders. Group facilitation, presentation, event planning skills and a focus on accountability will be critical for leading the CSR team and ensuring expected results. A high degree of initiative and independence is required while also recognizing the importance of collaboration and building quality teams. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer applications is required. Preparing written reports, contributing to budget planning and providing regular updates will be necessary in the role. Candidates must have a valid driver's license and provide a clear driver's abstract, as well as a satisfactory conduct certificate from the RCMP including a Vulnerable Sector Check, and a satisfactory Provincial Court check.
