Medical Laboratory Technologist required to perform diagnostic laboratory testing and operate laboratory equipment with confidence and efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion and graduation from High School;
  • Trained as a Medical Laboratory Technologist at an approved and accredited Medical Laboratory Science training program;
  • Registered Medical Laboratory Technologist with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS);
  • Registered with the Newfoundland and Labrador Council of Health Professionals;
  • Experienced in using Clinical Meditech Modules - Laboratory Information System and Hospital Information System;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Willing to undertake additional and ongoing training in Laboratory Safety, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Chemistry, Microbiology, Hematology, and Blood Banking;
  • Ability to keep abreast of technological changes;
  • Satisfactory Certificate of Conduct required.

Duties:

  • Perform diagnostic laboratory testing in accordance with accepted laboratory standards and policies;
  • Operate laboratory equipment with confidence and efficiency;
  • Participate in quality improvement program by monitoring and recording control results;
  • Participate in equipment maintenance program by performing daily maintenance;
  • Assume responsibility for daily operation of laboratory department as assigned;
  • Develop indicators to improve quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of Regional Laboratory Services;
  • Participate in quality improvement program and maintain quality within laboratory department;
  • Participate in rotational system of twenty-four-hour emergency standby;
  • Protect patient confidentiality and abide by Labrador-Grenfell Health Regional policies and procedures;
  • Participate in Medical Laboratory Department rotational schedule system of standby and shift work;
  • Perform other related duties as required.
