This is a hybrid role in Ottawa, Ontario.
Position Summary
The successful Software Developer candidate will implement, integrate, test, configure, and document full stack web-based software applications, and will be involved in selection, design, and experimentation activities related to such software in support of Innovation Team projects that contribute to naval platform in-service support programs. The successful candidate will help deliver value to the operational team quickly in an agile, incremental way and will work with business analysts and operational stakeholders to identify problems and find relevant solutions. The type of solutions could range from automating business processes, building a custom user interface that will make decision-making easier, connecting multiple software systems together, etc. The successful candidate will make use of modern software development techniques and technologies such as artificial intelligence and data analytics where warranted.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The successful candidate will:
• Participate in user needs / requirements analysis and software design;
• Experiment with new software stacks for proof of concept / pilot projects;
• Implement web applications software, including coding, unit testing, and integration;
• Produce software developer documentation;
• Apply Infrastructure as Code for quick and repeatable software deployment;
• Identify and analyze software defects and implement fixes into product releases; and
• Build and maintain currency in software development best practices and methodologies.
6.1 DDQ - Design, Develop and Qualify the Solution
To provide products and customer solutions in consistency with all stakeholders' needs and entity policies, as well as continuously enhance engineering competitiveness.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or equivalent education with relevant experience
• 7 years professional web application software development experience, including:
• Front-end development with Angular and/or React frameworks
• Back-end development using a managed programming language (e.g. C#, Java) and an associated framework (e.g. Node.JS, Spring, .NET Core)
• Web app development using a scripting language (e.g. JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Ruby) and an associated framework (e.g. , Django, Ruby on Rails)
• Experience with REST API creation and/or management
• Experience working in a scrum/agile software development environment
• Experience with containerization, e.g. Docker, Kubernetes
Regulatory Compliance Requirements
• Ability to obtain a NATO Secret security clearance
• Ability to meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the Canadian Controlled Goods Registration Program (including ITAR-controlled articles)
Special Position Requirements
• Hybrid position. Full time, standard business hours.
• Possibility of occasional travel to customer site for technical support / integration activities.
• Possibility of occasional travel within Canada for planning events.
