The Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development is seeking an individual to join the Information Systems and Departmental Services Branch as Facilities Maintenance, in Fredericton.

As a member of the maintenance team and reporting to the section Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with general maintenance and repairs of department facilities. Responsibilities will include moving office furniture and boxes, replacing light bulbs, hanging pictures, painting, light carpentry, basic plumbing, and assisting with minor repairs and renovations. This position is responsible for maintaining grounds, including mowing, whipper snipping, weeding, upkeep of plants, shrubs, and hedges, shoveling snow and operating a snow blower, and cleanup and organizing of facility areas. Duties of this position also include delivering and picking up supplies and other items, organizing supplies and personal protective equipment, delivering bank deposits, providing back-up and assistance to the year-round Facilities Maintenance/Operations Worker during the season. Other related duties may be assigned as required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Successful completion of grade ten (10); and a minimum of six (6) months of experience performing general labour work, including using tools and equipment used for grounds care, maintenance, and/or construction, or equivalent. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

ASSET QUALIFICATION(S): Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate successful completion of grade ten (10), and a minimum of one (1) year of experience performing general labour work, including using tools and equipment used for grounds care, maintenance, and/or construction, or equivalent. Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be prepared to: work a 40-hour week; work in inside and outside environments; work in all weather conditions; perform physically demanding tasks, including carrying items weighing more than 25 pounds; climb ladders; work outside for long periods of time; operate a variety of mowers, saws, tools, and equipment; work in accordance with specified safety procedures; wear all required safety equipment; work with minimal supervision; and travel to other areas of the province as required. A valid class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick or equivalent, is required.

SALARY: $1,749.60 bi-weekly
