About the RoleThis is a seasonal position, typically running from mid-November to mid-April. As a Winter Road Patroller/Heavy Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for patrolling City-owned roads, identifying and documenting required repair or maintenance work, and operating large articulating loaders for winter control operations.
Key Responsibilities- Patrol City-owned roads to identify and document required repair or maintenance work
- Operate large articulating loaders for winter control operations, including loading trucks with winter control material
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on a range of vehicles, equipment, and tools
- Load and unload materials, such as salt, sand, cones, signs, and shovels, to and from vehicles
- Perform minor repairs within the right-of-way to ensure public safety
- Comply with Division standards and Health & Safety policies and procedures
- Work overtime and rotational shifts as assigned
- Minimum 100 hours of seat time operating large articulating loaders with a focus on loading trucks and winter maintenance
- High School Graduate or equivalent plus roads maintenance courses
- Demonstrated experience in and working knowledge of roads maintenance, preferably in an urban growth environment
- Experience operating a range of light and heavy-duty vehicles
- Knowledge of Minimum Maintenance Standards
- Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance and inspections on a full range of vehicles, equipment, and tools
