The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is a leading transit system in North America, serving hundreds of millions of customers annually. As a Track Welder Trainee, you will be part of a team that delivers safe, reliable, and efficient mass public transit service.
Job DescriptionWe are seeking three Track Welder Trainees to perform varied and moderately-complex electric and/or acetylene welding, cutting, and grinding work in the shop, yard, or other TTC properties. This includes track bonding, cad welding, and related work. You will set up and operate various types of cutting and welding equipment, use a variety of oxy-acetylene and arc welding processes, and weld or braze various metals.
- Seam welding track-plates, combination plates, expansion joints, and rebuilding worn rail heads, guard rail on curves, special trackwork castings, welding jog plates, etc.
- Performing general emergency work such as freeing frozen track switches and mechanisms, making temporary repairs to defective rail joints, etc.
- Operating a truck to transport tools, materials, and personnel to work sites.
- Setting out track zone lights, flags, and/or impassable track set-ups in strict accordance with published safety regulations.
- Performing related duties as assigned.
- Grade 12 education technical program or its recognized equivalent.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, and published operating/safety rules and regulations.
- Valid class "G" province of Ontario driver's licence, or better.
- Ability to attend and successfully complete all portions of the training to sustain the trainee status.
- Respirator fitted and able to use respirators.
