Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Rail Car Mechanic Apprentice to join our team at CPKC. As a key member of our Mechanical Car department, you will be responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance on rail cars, ensuring they are safe and efficient for operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Repair and maintain freight car equipment, including trucks, underframes, structure, safety appliances, braking systems, and draft systems
  • Perform all preventative maintenance work and repairs on rail cars, including inspections and testing
  • Work in a high production environment, meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of quality
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth operation of the rail car maintenance process
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalence Diploma
  • Preference given to those with journeyman welder or commercial driver's license
  • Valid driver's license an asset
  • Experience with heavy metal fabrication/welding an asset
  • Ability to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays in all weather conditions
  • Strong communication skills and ability to follow safety instructions and regulations
