The Opportunity We are currently seeking a Superintendent, Electrical Engineering to join our Engineering, Maintenance and Reliability team in Thompson, MB. This is a permanent position.
Acting as the technical authority of the electrical engineering discipline for our Manitoba Operations, you will be accountable for ensuring the integrity and reliability of our electrical assets, leading the failure investigation, maintenance strategy development, inspection programs, predictive maintenance program, capital projects, asset life cycle decisions and management of change process for all our electrical assets. Additionally, you will be providing leadership, coaching and mentorship to our electrical engineering team members.
Additionally, in this position you will:
  • Lead, mentor and coach a team of engineering personnel to achieve operational targets.
  • Conduct complex engineering studies, field inspections, and prepare relevant reports.
  • Complete, approve, and review complex engineering estimates, drawings & calculations.
  • Review scopes of work, front end loading (FEL) studies and detailed design packages.
  • Ensure the in-house Vale engineering design standards are up to date.
  • Supporting the plants and mines as a focal point for the electrical engineering team.
  • Responsible for the development and updating of Vale Engineering Standards
  • Lead the scope development for electrical projects.
  • Review/ Oversee of consultant's work performed on assigned Vale engineering projects.
  • Function as the Electrical Technical Authority for the Thompson Operations.
  • Hold the overall accountability for the work done by the electrical engineering team.
  • Lead a team of electrical engineers and design personnel to complete assignments.
  • Support the bad actor elimination process to reduce unplanned down time.
  • Support the asset maintenance strategy optimization process led by the reliability team.
  • Support the elimination of production restrictions due to electrical assets.
  • Lead the Root cause Analysis process for electrical assets.
  • Effectively manage team's priorities to provide the best support to our operations.
About YouEducation:
  • Batchelor of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Eligible for registration as a licensed professional engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a heavy industry such as Mining, Pulp & Paper, or Oil & Gas.
Skills:
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Robust knowledge of electrical systems including power distribution, motor controls including soft starters & VFDs, transformers, motors, including maintenance and testing
  • Experience with industrial control systems and instrumentation will be an asset.
  • Experience in planning and estimating engineering hours for projects.
  • Proficiency writing equipment specifications and construction scopes of work.
  • Understanding and application of risk assessment and process hazards review processes
  • Familiarity with the latest electrical codes, acts, regulations and up to date on technology.
  • Ability to influence and promote the high reliability culture within the organization.
