PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Reporting to the Manager Community Investment, the Specialist, Community Investment supports a comprehensive community engagement program and coordinates the annual Community Investment budgets. The Specialist ensures that the software CPKC uses for its Community Investment programs is operational and manages changes. They work closely with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate initiatives that further the companies' positive reputation and impact within the communities we operate in. The position provides support to numerous line of businesses within CPKC on their Community Investments, liaises with charitable, non-profit and business organizations to coordinate donations and sponsorships, supports community investment grant processes, and gathers data for reporting and communication purposes.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Comprehensive understanding of budgeting, forecasting, accruals, amortization to provide finance with ongoing guidance of team spend. Liaise with internal team in the preparation and monitoring of annual $24m budgets for the Sponsorship & Community Investment department that aligns with company and departmental goals
  • Support internal stakeholders (including but not limited to Executives, Marketing & Sales, HR/Diversity, Hazmat, CPKC Police Service, Government Affairs, Community Relations, First Nation, Operations) with their donations and sponsorships and provide industry best practices, strategic direction and contract negotiation to ensure alignment with business strategy. Assist internal stakeholders develop business strategy around their community investment initiatives if not already developed
  • Enter and process both cash & in-kind (e.g. equipment, historical items, silent auction items, etc.) donations and sponsorships using Benevity software and CPKC's internal payment systems ensuring budget caps are respected and contracts are in place when required
  • Communicate via emails and/or phone calls with external organizations regarding the application for donations / sponsorships; to coordinate with successful applicant deliverables for payments, collateral materials (ads, videos, banners), etc. to ensure maximizing the engagement with organizations and the return on our investments
  • Daily management and administration of the Benevity Grants software through understanding of the backend internal processes including security requirements and accounting processes
  • Develop and prepare reports, presentations, and documents for strategic planning and reporting, ESG reporting, social impact metrics and communication materials
  • Work with the Communications Team on the creation of internal and external communications plan to profile investments/story tell with audiences
  • Respond to public inquiries about sponsorships and community investments in a meaningful and timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned to support the Sponsorship and Community Investment Team

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-secondary certification/degree/diploma in Community Investment, public relations, CSR or a related field
  • Five years of related work experience
  • General interest and passion for CI work and understanding of its business value
  • Thorough understanding of finances including budgeting, forecasting, accruals, amortization
  • Familiarity with SAP is a benefit
  • Experience with Benevity or other granting software is considered an asset
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands with tight timelines.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders; this includes excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to assess and evaluate funding requests
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a demonstrated ability to facilitate and manage internal and external discussions on Sponsorship and Community Investment related matters
  • Demonstrated discretion and sound judgment in the handling of confidential information; this includes a high degree of integrity and trust
  • The ability to prioritize, and cope with stress and deadline pressures.
  • Digital and social-media savvy
  • Proactive, while demonstrating sound judgment
  • Solutions oriented with ability to see opportunities for collaboration
  • Demonstrated ability to carry projects and initiatives to completion while working successfully with various groups within a diverse and inclusive organization, both in a team environment and independently.
  • Intermediate to advance level of MS Office (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Some evening/weekend work required as it relates to representing CP at Sponsorships & Community Investment events and CP events.
