Summary: Seeking passionate Educational Assistants to support students with academic delays in literacy and numeracy interventions in a First Nations community. We are seeking passionate Educational Assistants to join our team at Elsie Fabian School. As an Educational Assistant, you will work with students who demonstrate significant academic delays and require additional academic focus in literacy and numeracy interventions. You will work with individual or small groups of students on literacy, numeracy, and English language learner programs. About the Role As an Educational Assistant, your primary responsibilities will include: • Following research-based approaches for literacy, numeracy, and/or ELL interventions • Adhering to guidelines set out within reading programs and evaluating effectiveness of strategies • Implementing reading intervention programming with minimal supervision • Communicating reading levels and strategies to students and parents • Scheduling weekly meetings with teachers to communicate intervention plans and successes • Planning daily reading, writing, or numeracy activities under the direction of the teacher or CST • Preparing and modifying materials to meet individual student needs • Organizing and preparing program materials, games, supplies, and wall displays • Working with computer programs to assist literacy, numeracy, and/or spoken English development • Assisting with pre-teaching concepts from the curriculum • Implementing ELL approaches, including vocabulary development, speaking English, reading, and writing development • Implementing daily record keeping for student literacy, numeracy, or ELL portfolio • Completing term progress checklists with the teacher • Completing performance records of reading, including reading fluency, word recognition, and reading comprehension • Providing supports for ELL learners to promote vocabulary, oral comprehension, and communication in English • Preparing individual materials to teach literacy and numeracy concepts to mastery levels Key Requirements • Educational Assistant Certificate is required • Related degree or diploma is considered an asset • Previous related experience is required • Experience working in a First Nations community, including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, and values, is a definite asset • Clean Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector required • Valid class 5 Driver's License & Clean Driver's Abstract required About Fort McKay The Fort McKay First Nation is composed of over 800 band members, including those of Cree and Dene heritage.
