Position Overview

The Human Resource Assistant is responsible for providing administrative assistance and support to the Human Resource Department, completing a variety of transactions related to Human Resources. These include but are not limited to being proxy for managers in Success Factors, job postings, processing of employee status changes, filing, processing Human Resource related documents and correspondence, compiling employee reports, providing administrative support for attendance management and effective and efficient office organization. They provide guidance to Managers in relation to Human Resources processes, providing basic collective agreement interpretation, and counselling staff in relation to Human Resource matters.

Experience
  • One (1) year office experience in the Human Resources field required, preferably in a large unionized environment.
  • One (1) year scheduling experience understanding rotation position control numbers and rotation development.
  • Must have experience onboarding employees, benefit processes and processing leaves and terminations.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • Formal training in applied office skills required.
  • Successful completion of a Human Resources Management Certificate preferred.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Proven ability to communicate with outside agencies such as WCB, MPIC, EI and benefit providers.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of SAP would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of ESP would be an asset.
  • Typing 50 wpm.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) required.
  • Ability to set up spreadsheets and data bases required and performs data entry.
  • Confidentiality is essential.
  • Ensures a high level of accuracy in all functions related to the department.
  • Works well under pressure within deadlines.
  • Must have an ability to provide and maintain a high level of customer service and support.
  • Must be a well-organized team player with the ability to work in a busy environment and apply other initiatives.
  • Must be able to work independently and complete assignments within deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in English; both orally and in writing.
Physical Requirements
  • Office environment with continuous periods of computer use, reading and writing.
  • Significant interaction with staff and public.
  • Frequent interruptions.
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated individuals.
  • Must be able to work effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Physical activities include climbing, step ladder and bending and reaching for files.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
