As an Associate General Counsel, your role will provide legal advice on business transactions, assist and review all undertakings, provide analysis, counseling, and assistance to management on laws pertaining to human resources, environmental laws, custom compliance, trademarks, patents, copyrights, and regulatory compliance, establishing guidelines, policies, procedures, and documents for legal affairs.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Work with General Counsel to establish guidelines, policies, procedures, and legal documents.
  • Research information, drafting documents, reviewing with General Council, consulting with outside lawyers, making adjustments as required, and implementing with manager's assistance.
  • Create standards and procedures to build awareness and compliance to legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a legal representative to protect the organization's legal interests, through attending courts, tribunals, and boards where legal representatives are required and presenting cases, perspectives, and legal representation for Irving Oil.
  • Perform other duties as required to maintain and improve department productivity.

Your Skills:

  • Strong leadership capability.
  • Proven experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex legal documents.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Outstanding presentation and legal project management skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining the highest level of professionalism and ethical standards.

Your Experience:

  • Law degree and current, or former, practicing lawyer (current bar admission/practicing certificate).
  • 2 - 5 years of related experience.
