The Role:

We are seeking a Data Steward to join the Business Analytics & Enablement team in our Saint John, NB or Blacks Harbour, NB office. As a Data Steward you are responsible, from a business perspective, for the data requirements, specifications, and quality that will support the business. Data stewardship is a functional role in data management and governance, with responsibility for ensuring that data policies and standards turn into practice within the steward's domain.

Data stewards are invaluable assets that provide direction with respect to data and embrace the role as a change agent in building a data driven culture. They assist the organization in leveraging data to its full capacity.

You will provide value through successful management of the core data throughout the data lifecycle to advance our analytics maturity. You will help the team build out processes to ensure data governance is in place and master data needs are met. The data steward is critical to begin the supply chain process and is highly important to ensuring product execution and ultimately customer satisfaction. The role supports operations by monitoring and analyzingmaster data, keydata, andmasterrelationshipdata.

Responsibilities:

Data quality management:

  • Manage, control, and monitor data quality throughout the data lifecycle by ensuring that data is fit for its intended use and easy to access
  • Maintain quality of the data using customer feedback, concerns, questions; internally reporting metrics; evaluating and identifying issues; and coordinating and implementing corrections regularly
  • Support the direction of the enterprise Master Management Strategy

Policy compliance:

  • Ensure that data is managed and protected in accordance with Cooke's policies, principles, and standards
  • Adhere to Cooke's data distribution and governance (where appropriate) guidelines before data is released

Process:

  • Define the business requirements and validation rules for the appropriate business domain data allowing data users to effectively support reporting
  • Define the data, support the establishment of data definitions and business rules
  • Identify data assets to ensure there is no conflict with other data elements
  • Manage product, customer and vendor data and standardization for the different companies within Cooke and across stakeholder groups
  • Create processes and procedures in collaboration with Master Data Management program along with controls to monitor adherence
  • Optimize workflows and communications
  • Monitor data usage to assist teams, share best practice trends in data use, and provide insight into how and where teams can use data to help in day-to-day decision-making
  • Troubleshoot and address issues to enable proper setup

A successful candidate will be:

  • An excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing
  • Detail-oriented with strong technical skills and ability to learn quickly. Database knowledge and/or data modeling is an asset.
  • Energized in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • A problem solver by nature
  • Well versed in business acumen and/or master data management practices
  • Inspired to encourage discussion and debate on data
