We are looking for a landfill Compactor at our Walker Niagara Landfill location.

Job Duties

You'll work primarily as part of our landfill team in operating the compactor. You need to be highly detailed, conscientious, and understand that the quality of your work reflects on the reputation of the company as a whole. Work requires the use of the landfill compactor and support tools.

The successful applicant will also be required to train and become efficient in "Supplemental Duties" to the Landfill Unit which may include grounds maintenance and/or operations of landfill tipper equipment to supplement the Landfill Unit's workforce when needed and as required.

Based on the volume of activity at the site, marketplace factors, and/or site conditions there may be periods of time throughout the year in which the number of compactors operating per day is reduced, thus reducing the number of compactor operators needed per day. As such, and per the CBA, the successful candidate may be required to take on other landfill positions/duties for extended periods of time during these periods. During these periods the successful candidate would continue to be paid at the applicable compactor operator's rate of pay, as per the CBA.

Qualifications

Ideally, you have these qualifications:

  • Ability to perform duties independently while continually operating in concert with each compactor team's individual assignment.
  • Ability to take direction from lead compact operators, lead hand, and communicate effectively during any given day's operating conditions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work and deal tactfully with customers (Truck Drivers)

Hourly wage is $30.39/hour plus group benefits, a pension plan, and many other industry-leading Walker perks.
