Job Description:

Summary:

The person in this position will work on projects with a diverse team of engineers and scientists, completing water resources/civil engineering and related technical assignments. Project work may include hydrologic analysis for rural and urban settings; hydraulic analysis and design related to rivers, streams, conveyances, dams, and other hydraulic structures; watershed management; impact assessments; natural channel design; and working with clients, permitting agencies, and public officials. Assignments may also include leading project teams with a variety of technical backgrounds and disciplines. The work or training may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments either in the field or in another Barr office.

Minimum Qualifications:
B.Sc. in civil, environmental, or related engineering fields with a focus on water resources5 years of water resources engineering consulting experienceProject management and/or task management experienceExperience with water resources challenges such as precipitation and flooding data analysis; urban and rural hydrologic analysis; open channel and pipe flow analysis; hydraulic structures; bank stabilization and stream restoration; flood modelling and mapping; dam break analysis; dam and levee analysis and designFamiliarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modelling approaches and software commonly used in the industryWorking knowledge of Microsoft Suite, GIS, and CADD softwareExperience with budget, scope, and/or proposal developmentFamiliarity with water resources data collection methodologiesAbility to manage multiple project deadlines, budgets, and scopesExperience providing technical mentorship and guidance to junior staff on projectsP.Eng. registration or eligibility for immediate registration with APEGAFlexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needsStrong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skillsLegal authorization to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship from Barr Engineering and Environmental Science Canada Ltd., now or in the futurePossession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications:
M.Sc. or PhD degree(s) in civil, environmental, or related engineering fields6+ years of water resources engineering consulting experienceEligibility for registration with APEGS and EGBCExperience with client management and business developmentExperience with GIS; CADD; hydrologic modelling and 1D, 2D, and 3D hydraulic modelling software; and water quality modellingExperience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling toolsExperience with coastal engineering and calculations such as wave analysis and coastal shoreline protection designExperience with climate change analyses and modellingStrong technical skills in a broad range of civil engineering topicsExperience working with the City of Calgary, other Alberta municipalities, municipal districts, and/or other Alberta or provincial public entitiesExperience with site development design and plans, specifications, and contract documentsConstruction observation, fieldwork, and surveying experience

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Calgary, Alberta, office.

NOTE: Some work locations will feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting and moving equipment. Safety and other training will be provided. Drug screening and participating in a random drug screening program will be required to work for some clients.
