Health Care Assistant, Long Term Care Job Description

We are seeking a Health Care Assistant to provide person-centered care to residents in a long-term care setting.

About the Job

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to provide care to residents, promoting their choices, individualized routines, and continuity of care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living, such as toileting, bathing, skin care, grooming, dressing, and personal laundry.
  • Participate in the organization and implementation of leisure activities, encouraging resident participation and informing them of daily plans.
  • Makes tea, coffee, toast, and assists residents with their dining experience.
  • Observes changes in resident behavior and abilities, documenting and reporting them to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Performs procedures such as taking temperature and weight, and obtains laboratory specimens.
  • Utilizes mechanical aids to transfer and position residents in comfortable and therapeutic body positions.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment, reporting any issues to the appropriate staff.
Qualifications

Grade 10, graduation from a recognized Health Care Assistant Program, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Food Safety Certificate Level 1.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to teach.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
