About the Opportunity

The EHS Advisor will play a critical role in promoting a health, safety, and environmental culture within Aecon's Industrial Division. This position will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety orientations and training sessions for employees, owners, and clients to ensure a thorough understanding of Aecon's Health, Safety, and Environmental Manual.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on various health, safety, and environmental topics, including fall protection, confined space entry, WHMIS, respiratory protection, and emergency response.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections, behavior-based observations, and audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Update Material Safety Data Sheets as required and ensure accurate and timely reporting of incidents and near-miss events.
  • Develop and implement worksite safety plans, including emergency plans, environmental plans, and site safety plans.
  • Distribute safety materials, supplies, and equipment to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Promote Aecon's safety system to potential clients and stakeholders, highlighting the company's commitment to health, safety, and environmental excellence.
  • Analyze EHS data trends and recommend corrective actions to improve safety performance.
  • Assist with workers' compensation claims and develop return-to-work and modified work programs.
  • Investigate incidents and near-miss events to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Liaise with government agencies as required and prepare for external safety audits.
  • Coordinate environmental issues and gather EHS-based statistics to inform business decisions.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a similar role, with a strong background in health, safety, and environmental management.
  • CRST certification and OHS Certificate or Diploma are preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with employees, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
