Job Title: Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner

We are seeking a highly skilled Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner to join our team at the Provincial Health Services Authority. As a key member of our Infection Prevention and Control team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of infection prevention and control practices across our healthcare facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct IPAC surveillance, data collection, analysis, and reporting to identify problem areas and infection risks.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate infection prevention and control initiatives, policies, procedures, and guidelines in collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
  • Provide education and mentorship to healthcare providers, support services, and third-party providers on IPAC processes.
  • Conduct investigative audits, collect data, and analyze results to inform recommendations for remediation and improvement.
  • Provide expertise on alerts, outbreaks, and outbreak management calls, and prepare status reports for leadership teams and site committees.
  • Consult and advise on infection prevention and control issues, policies, best practices, and standards with healthcare professionals, third-party providers, and patients and families.
  • Report communicable or contagious diseases to public health officials as necessary.
  • Collaborate with facility-planning and maintenance personnel on regulatory requirements and accreditation standards for site-level emergencies, construction projects, and renovation initiatives.
  • Identify learning goals, maintain current clinical competence, and stay up-to-date with current developments in the IPAC field.
  • Develop a quality improvement plan for corrective action based on site infection and control risks.
  • Report adverse events using the Patient Safety Learning System.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on designated professional or operational committees and participate in special projects.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant health science discipline, such as Med Lab Sciences, Medical/Clinical Microbiology, Epidemiology, Pathology, or related field.
  • Three years' recent related clinical experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current Certification Board for Infection Control (CBIC) Certification in Infection Control (CIC) or expected certification within two years of start of employment.
  • A valid BC Driver's License and access to a vehicle for business-related purposes, as required.
  • Travel outside of existing geographic area and/or overnight travel may be required, and will be compensated in accordance with applicable collective agreement language.
