Seasonal - Airside Maintenance Technician

SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Airfield Maintenance Supervisor (Winter), the Airfield Maintenance Technician (AMT) (Winter Seasonal) is responsible for the safe and efficient snow removal and ice control (SNIC) on runways, taxiways, aircraft aprons and around airport infrastructure. Successful candidates will be trained to utilize specialized, airport-specific heavy equipment such as airfield plow/sweeper/blower units and self-propelled snowblowers. Front end loaders and other types of heavy equipment are also utilized. The successful candidates are responsible for the safe and efficient upkeep and maintenance of all hard surfaces, grounds and fencing encompassed on airside, in all types of weather. Manual snow removal is also required, as necessary. The successful candidate will also assist with the general maintenance of HIAA facilities, maintenance of HIAA snow removal equipment, and collaborate with other HIAA departments to enable safe airport operations.

We currently offer the following for the Airfield Maintenance Technician (AMT) (Winter Seasonal) position:
- Union membership, operating in accordance with HIAA's Collective Agreement
- Starting hourly rate of $38.25+
- Two-day, two-night, four off, 12-hour shift rotation schedule. Pay based on a 40-hour work week (averaged)
- Annual seasonal shift rotation schedule published in advance of season start
- Overtime (1.75x hourly rate), plus allowances, may be offered
- Paid new-hire training period focused on airport safety, airport familiarization and unique airport procedures. Monday to Friday 07:30-16:00 (approximately three weeks)
- Paid yearly one-week refresher training, Monday to Friday 07:30-16:00
- Shift premiums for evening and weekend work
- Commuting allowance (if eligible)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum five (5) years experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment for the purposes of snow and ice control
- A valid class 3 driver's license with airbrake endorsement
- Formal training in heavy equipment operation considered an asset
- Formal training in Class 1 / Class 3 truck operation considered an asset
- Familiarity with airports and/or airside operations an asset
- Experience in civil construction, general labour and hard surface repairs
- Basic computer skills, including use of MS Office and Outlook
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES SHALL:
- Following an indoctrination, education and training period;
- Obtain and maintain an HIAA Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC), an Airport Vehicle Operators Permit (AVOP-D) and a Radio Operator's Certificate - Aeronautical (ROC-A)
- Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively in-person and via two-way radio
- Demonstrate ability to maintain a high-level of performance in a challenging, highly regulated environment.
- Produce and maintain acceptable driver's abstracts and criminal background checks
- Demonstrate mechanical aptitude to identify problems and perform elementary maintenance
- Demonstrate ability to work effectively within a team through use of critical thinking skills and behavior to help ensure the team's success
- Demonstrate ability to build and maintain positive and respectful working relationships
- Demonstrate ability to take direction and implement instructions in a timely manner
- Work a shift rotation schedule: Two days, two nights, four off, 12-hour shifts.
- Work and commute to work, in inclement weather
- Complete any additional required HIAA training
- Be physically capable of lifting 20kg and be able to perform manual labour, including snow removal, as required

RÉSUMÉ
Sous la responsabilité du superviseur de l'entretien de l'aérodrome (hiver), le technicien d'entretien de l'aérodrome (hiver) est responsable du déneigement et du déglaçage sécuritaires et efficaces des pistes, des voies de circulation, des aires de stationnement pour les avions ainsi que des infrastructures entourant l'aéroport. Les candidats retenus seront formés pour utiliser l'équipement lourd propre à l'aéroport, comme des chasse-neige, des balayeuses et des souffleuses. Ils peuvent également devoir utiliser des chargeuses frontales ainsi que d'autres types d'équipement lourd. Les candidats retenus sont tenus d'effectuer l'entretien efficace et sécuritaire de toutes les surfaces dures, des terrains et des clôtures du côté piste, par tous les temps. Il peut également être nécessaire de déneiger manuellement certaines surfaces. Le candidat retenu participera également à l'entretien général des installations et de l'équipement de déneigement de l'AAIH et collaborera avec les autres services de l'AAIH afin d'assurer la sécurité des opérations aéroportuaires.

FORMATION ET EXPÉRIENCE :
- Avoir au moins cinq (5) ans d'expérience dans la conduite et l'entretien d'équipement lourd aux fins de déneigement et de déglaçage;
- Posséder un permis de conduire de classe 3 valide avec la mention pour les freins à air;
- Avoir suivi une formation formelle sur la conduite d'équipement lourd est considéré comme un atout;
- Avoir suivi une formation formelle sur la conduite d'un camion (classe 1 ou classe 3) est considéré comme un atout;
- Connaître les aéroports ou les opérations côté piste est considéré comme un atout.
- Posséder une expérience en construction civile, en réparation de surfaces dures ainsi qu'en tant que manœuvre et homme ou femme de métier;
- Avoir des compétences de base en informatique, y compris l'utilisation de MS Office et d'Outlook.
LES CANDIDATS RETENUS DOIVENT :
- Participer à une période de formation et de familiarisation préliminaire;
- Obtenir et conserver une carte d'identité de zone réglementée (CIZR) de l'AAIH, un permis de conduire côté piste de type D (AVOP-D) ainsi qu'un certificat d'opérateur radio – aéronautique (COR-A);
- Être en mesure de communiquer efficacement en personne et au moyen d'une radio bidirectionnelle;
- Montrer sa capacité à maintenir un niveau de rendement élevé dans un environnement difficile et rigoureusement réglementé;
- Produire et conserver des dossiers de conduite et de vérification d'antécédents criminels acceptables;
