Job Title: Associate Director - Waterworks Operations

At the City of Vancouver, we are seeking an experienced and skilled Associate Director to lead our Waterworks Operations team. As a key member of our Engineering Services department, you will be responsible for managing the construction, maintenance, and operation of our water distribution system.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to ensure the safe and secure supply of potable water to customers and fire-fighting flows for the Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services.
  • Manage a team of staff responsible for the maintenance and operation of the water distribution system, including the construction and maintenance of watermains, water service connections, and other infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with City standards and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with senior management and other partners to implement and monitor the objectives outlined in the Departmental and Corporate Strategic and Operational Plans.
  • Identify and mitigate risks to the water distribution system and develop strategies to minimize potential impacts.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in business or engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience managing in a unionized operations environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of water system operations and regulations, including occupational hazards and safety procedures.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and engage a large and diverse team.
