Detailed OverviewIn alignment with the standards of practice set by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, the Registered Nurse, Perinatal is responsible for providing direct patient care to childbearing patients and their families during the various stages of perinatal care.
Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments of patients and unborn babies upon admission and at regular intervals.
- Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and the inter-professional care team to develop and modify patient care plans.
- Participate in care and discharge planning processes, ensuring effective implementation of care plans.
- Coordinate nursing care and make referrals to the inter-professional care team as needed.
- Teach patients and families about health promotion, pregnancy, newborn care, and parenting.
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses according to standards.
- Participate in educational programs to maintain clinical competence.
- Act as a mentor to guide new nursing staff and students.
- Provide feedback on patient care programs and contribute to quality improvement activities.
- Participate in designated professional committees, care conferences, and research projects.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Graduate from an approved School of Nursing with current registration as a Registered Nurse. Minimum of one year of recent clinical perinatal nursing experience or equivalent combination of education and training.
Skills and Abilities:- Ability to conduct patient assessments and apply maternal/fetal/newborn theory to nursing care.
- Effective communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
