Detailed Overview
In alignment with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, the Registered Nurse provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating nursing care to patients in acute inpatient areas.
Responsibilities
- Assesses patients and collects information from various sources using observation, communication, data review, and physical assessment to make nursing diagnoses and determine appropriate interventions to improve the patient's condition.
- Collaborates with patients and their families/caregivers to develop care plans, establish therapeutic relationships, and involve them in the care planning process.
- Participates in care and discharge planning, coordinates nursing care, and collaborates with the interprofessional care team.
- Teaches patients and families/caregivers about health maintenance, disease prevention, and illness recovery.
- Documents assessments, nursing interventions, patient responses, and referrals following practice standards.
- Participates in research, quality improvement activities, educational programs, and acts as a mentor to new nursing staff and students.
- Provides feedback on patient care programs and equipment effectiveness.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Education and Experience: Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

- Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessments and provide nursing care through appropriate interventions.
- Effective communication skills with patients, families, medical staff, and the interprofessional care team.
- Ability to promote person-centered care, problem-solve effectively, and prioritize work.
- Capability to collaborate with the interprofessional care team, use evidence-based practice, and operate relevant equipment.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
