Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Laboratory Technician to perform venipuncture, ECG, and Holter Monitor Hook-up on inpatients. The successful candidate will also be responsible for organizing and arranging transport of specimens, practicing patient-centered care, and maintaining adequate supply stocks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform venipuncture, ECG, and Holter Monitor Hook-up on inpatients
  • Organize and arrange transport of specimens
  • Practice patient-centered care
  • Use hospital information systems to access and document procedures
  • Participate in training of staff
  • Maintain adequate supply stocks
  • Adhere to safe working environment and comply with IPAC
Requirements:
  • Completion of Grade 12, or recognized equivalent
  • Graduate of a post-secondary Laboratory Technician or Laboratory Assistant certificate program, or recognized equivalent
  • OSMT (Ontario Society of Medical Technologists) or CSMLS license, preferred
  • Minimum one (1) year related work experience in a laboratory setting
  • Minimum one (1) year recent work experience in venipuncture, ECG, and specimen management
  • Effective organizational, time management skills and prioritization skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of appropriate behaviour required working successfully in a diverse work group
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Procedures in a laboratory
  • Computer literate in Windows based applications
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Ability to work accurately under stressful conditions
