We are looking for a Policy and Planning Officer to support our Security Branch. The Policy and Planning Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Security Officer, this position would account for the development, implementation and maintenance of policy suites and related program instruments in the domain of the Departmental Security Office. In this key role the officer would consult with key stakeholders to provide ongoing advice to NRC program managers on the application of security policies and collaborate in reporting to Senior Management.

The ideal candidate is someone who has knowledge of emerging technology trends, security methods and their application to strategic and business planning functions in the development and implementation of a fully integrated strategic security model.

The Security Branch is responsible for safeguarding the NRC's essential resources: its people, information and assets. The Branch provides security in case of emergencies and offers regional support. It has the expertise to manage security operations, provide guidance and training with security-related operations and assistance with threat and risk assessments

Education

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience
  • Significant* experience in the development and implementation of security policy and program planning and proposals.
  • Experience in the application of security concepts and standards in accordance with the Policy on Government Security.
  • Significant* experience in the research and analysis of complex issues, developing recommendations and providing advice to senior management.
  • Significant* experience in the preparation of briefing notes, reports and presentations for senior management.
  • Significant* experience collaborating with partners, agencies and other government departments.

*Significant: a minimum of 2 to 6 years of experience would be required.

The following experience could be considered as an asset:

  • Experience in the application of effective performance review and program evaluation methodologies.
  • Experience in applying Project Management principles to strategic priorities.
Condition of Employment

Secret (II)

A Secret clearance must be obtained within 12 months of employment.

  • Ability to write effectively including strategic policies and proposals, briefing notes, reports and presentations to senior management using Microsoft Office Applications.

Compensation

From $84,199 to $94,284 per annum.

In addition, the incumbent will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.
