Job Summary

The Digital Content and Engagement Strategist of the REDI Office leads, plans, project manages, and delivers strategic communications to inform, educate, and engage the Faculty of Medicine's staff, faculty, and learners. This work is a vital component to REDI's activities to promote equity and inclusion. Because of the distributed nature of the Faculty of Medicine, the REDI website and newsletter is a critical component of the REDI Office's educational programming in order to work to change the culture and practice in relation to equity, inclusion, decolonization, Indigenization, respectful environments, anti-racism and anti-oppression. The communications work in the REDI Office is complex because our unit functions to support the thriving and belonging of diverse historically, persistently and systemically marginalized groups. This requires extensive EDI knowledge to move forward on projects while responding to conflicting and diverse feedback from different groups and carefully navigating the goals of support and inclusion for these groups and other strategic commitments of the Faculty and university. The newsletter, website and events promotions are the main on-ramp to engage a broad spectrum of people to begin the process to create change within their distributed units.

The Digital Content and Engagement Strategist develops the strategy for digital content, leads and project manages complex projects related to Digital Content and Engagement that require a deep understanding of the structure of the Faculty of Medicine, equity, inclusion and accessibility, communications, web design, institutional analysis and data visualization. These projects may include using data analytics to create interactive dashboards, and data visualizations to effectively capture meaningful insights and trends about REDI's programming for presentation to senior leadership (eg. creating the REDI annual report). It also includes developing and maintaining a project management system to track and evaluate services, and engagement of the REDI team (including the success and impacts of consultations and events).

The reach of the REDI unit is substantial. Our newsletter alone is shared with the Faculty of Medicine faculty, staff, researchers and learners across BC, totaling approximately 20,000, which are distributed across 4 University Academic Campuses, 11 Clinical Academic Campuses, 17 Affiliated Regional Centres and 65+ Community Education Facilities/ Rural and Remote Distributed Sites. Given the extensive reach of the REDI Office, communications is very important in terms of the content, messaging and accuracy. In addition, REDI's website and events further reach alumni clinicians and medical professionals in BC health authorities (including five regional health authorities, Provincial Health Services Authority, and Providence Health Care), as well as Indigenous communities. The strategist also engages with FoM communicators' network, the FoM Creative and Communications office and other units and EDI leads on UBC campus to promote REDI's work across campus and to promote EDI related work across the Faculty of Medicine in REDI's channels. This role coordinates and leads the strategic, timely, informative, two-way communication for a diverse range of groups through websites, newsletters, and surveys. With a deep understanding of equity and inclusion, the digital Content and Engagement Strategist is a champion for raising awareness and creating behavioural and cultural change about equity and inclusion and clearly showcasing the impacts of the REDI Office to leaders and partners in a manner that is aligned with REDI's strategic priorities, UBC brand and the Faculty of Medicine's strategic commitments.
