Join our dynamic team of engineering professionals working on leading-edge projects with water and wastewater experts. As an Engineer-in-Training, you will work closely with senior engineers and project managers to support and grow our Water business.

Your Opportunity

Stantec's Edmonton Water team is seeking an Engineer-in-Training to join our group. You will have the opportunity to work on projects throughout Western Canada and North America, and contribute to the delivery of sustainable solutions for water management.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake municipal water and wastewater treatment system and pump station planning and design.
  • Prepare written technical reports, including design reports and technical memoranda.
  • Prepare conceptual and detailed design drawings, calculations, construction specifications, and tender documents.
  • Communicate design and task progress with senior engineers and project managers.
  • Conduct chemical or process simulation modelling as required.
  • Perform field work related to site investigations in support of design work.
  • Meet with clients, regulators, and officials to review project needs and coordinate field conditions.
  • Communicate and coordinate with multiple internal disciplines, CAD technicians, engineers, and project managers.
  • Deliver individual project tasks following project schedule and budget.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
  • Basic understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of water and wastewater treatment engineering design.
  • Experience with chemical and process simulation modelling is considered an asset.
  • Relevant work experience in water/wastewater treatment projects is an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking experience.
  • Commitment to client satisfaction and the delivery of high-quality work products.
  • The ability to multi-task, prioritize, and take direction.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities for working in diverse team environments.
  • Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team settings and engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner with clients, employees, and visitors.
  • An intense motivation for personal and professional growth.

Education and Experience

  • Must have a bachelor's in Environmental, Civil, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering field with a strong interest in water/wastewater projects.
  • Completion of a Master's Degree in Water/Wastewater Treatment is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 0-4 years of experience in engineering analysis and design of water and/or wastewater systems.

Work Environment

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather.
