Job Description:

Summary:

The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing mechanical engineering and related technical expertise. The work will primarily serve mining and heavy industrial clients. Project work may include industrial system design related to fluid transfer, bulk material handling, and plant layout; preparing design/construction drawings and specifications; completing engineering calculations and analyses; selecting equipment and components; writing technical reports; preparing sketches for system arrangement; developing details of designs; and preparing cost estimates and bid packages. The work may involve short-term, out-of-town trips.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university5+ years of related work experienceProfessional Engineer (P.Eng.) certification or ability to obtain within one yearExperience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office softwareStrong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skillsStrong writing abilityWillingness to work cooperatively in a project team environment that encourages self-initiativeDemonstrated project organization and management skillsFlexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needsLegal authorization to work in Canada without the need for sponsorshipLegal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship or the ability to obtain a TN VisaAcceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications:
10+ years of working on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial workplaceExperience with Revit and/or Solidworks softwareExperience directing the work of CAD designersExperience with AFT Fathom and/or Caesar II softwareClient service aptitude and experienceExperience working directly with clientsProven experience involving industrial equipment, pumping/piping systems, gas handling systems, HVAC, dust collection, plumbing, slurry/paste handling, and/or other relevant mechanical systemsDemonstrated project or task management skills

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is/can be based out of Barr's Calgary , Alberta, and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, offices.

NOTE: Some work locations will feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
