Seeking Experienced Leader for Civic Buildings Division

We are looking for a highly skilled and innovative leader to manage the City's civic buildings division, overseeing the assessment and description of needs for office and other building requirements, implementation of the Facilities Asset Management Plan, and provision of service levels as guided by council.

The ideal candidate will provide direct guidance for the planning, design, ongoing and preventative maintenance, and renovation/upgrades of existing buildings, maintaining a consistent portfolio-wide Facility Condition Index, and focusing on improvements to energy conservation and greenhouse gas emission reduction in existing facilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing a team of professionals, unionized staff, consultants, and contractors
  • Applying concepts, practices, and techniques in building design and construction, maintenance management, property and facilities management, and risk management
  • Negotiating and resolving conflicts
  • Managing and reporting on operating and capital budgets
  • Maintaining facility inventory data and implementing CMMS tools
  • Prioritizing work, acting decisively, and ensuring the best use of City resources
  • Writing, reporting, and presenting strategies related to building construction projects
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, peers, senior management, elected officials, and external contacts
  • Leading, mentoring, and supporting a diverse staff team
  • Assessing options, determining effective resource allocation, and recommending best courses of action
  • Reviewing and assessing property requirements, evaluating maintenance and renewal needs, and developing budgets

The successful candidate will have a degree in engineering, architecture, or a related discipline, with considerable related experience, including project management, contract administration, institutional building maintenance, property management, asset management, budget planning and analysis, and strategic planning.
