Transportation Engineer The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is seeking a skilled Transportation Engineer to join its dynamic team. As a key member of the Project Development and Planning Department, you will play a crucial role in managing transportation engineering projects and assignments, researching, planning, and implementing operational improvements to the transportation network that benefit the public transit system in the City of Toronto. Key Responsibilities: • Investigate and resolve operational problems on surface routes by applying knowledge of traffic signal systems and traffic engineering principles related to traffic flow, road design/geometry, traffic gaps, and queuing theories for safe bus operation. • Represent the department and the TTC as a technical specialist on complex internal and external studies, design/application specifics, and transit priority applications, including the Eglinton East Light Rail Transit Project. • Keep abreast of technological advances in Transportation Engineering and conduct and/or review transit/traffic impact analyses associated with new developments, making conclusions and recommendations. • Analyze intersections being considered for transit priority and project the level of benefit that would result. • Liaise with internal staff and external departments and agencies regarding transportation engineering issues affecting the TTC, including the City of Toronto's Eglinton East Light Rail Transit Project. • Monitor traffic enforcement and other traffic-related matters that impact TTC services. • Prepare various reports, memos, and letters associated with the work, attend public meetings, and make presentations as required. • Review computer simulation of complex intersections to determine the best signal operation/geometric design for transit vehicles. • Identify general priority measures for transit in the City of Toronto, such as queue jump and dedicated bus lanes. • Set up and analyze the results of Speed and Delay studies to identify problem locations and recommend possible courses of action. • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of inclusive and accessible policies, programs, and services for employees and customers in accordance with TTC's commitments and obligations. Requirements: • University degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent, combined with several years of directly related experience. • Registration (or eligible to be registered within 2 years) as a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario. • Sound knowledge of civil engineering principles, methods, and practices, specifically in Traffic Engineering and Transportation Engineering. • Excellent analytical skills, knowledge of research methods and techniques, and report writing skills. • Proficiency in the use of a PC and computer applications and systems related to the work, including Synchro intersection analyses software. • Experience with Macro, Meso, and Microsimulation software is an asset. • Understanding of the City of Toronto's traffic signal and roadway design standards, including traffic signal design, roadway design, and cycling facilities design.
