About the Opportunity

Please note: This position requires the successful incumbent to strictly adhere to Integrated Chronic Care Services (ICCS) scent-free free policy.

The Physiotherapist reports to the ICCS Health Service Manager. The physiotherapist assesses, diagnoses and treats patients who present with actual or potential impairment, pain, functional limitations or disabilities. Physiotherapy assessment involves obtaining a detailed medical history, performs a functional assessment including specific and standardized tests and evaluation, procedures to determine a physiotherapy diagnosis and tolerance for physical activity & exercise. Holistic treatment programs are developed using education, personalized exercises prescription, self-management strategies, and motivational interviewing around behavior change to assist the patient in regaining and/or maintaining an optimal level of function. The ICCS physiotherapist will be working individuals who are experiencing post-COVID, fibromyalgia, MCS and chronic fatigue, and is required to have a good understanding of, and keeps abreast of, emerging evidence with regards to treatment, physical activity and exercise counselling for this patient population. The physiotherapist educates and communicates with other health disciplines, the general public, family members and caregivers with regard to health promotion, physiotherapy treatment and patient management. The physiotherapist provides supervision and evaluation of physiotherapy students. The ICCS physiotherapist as a member of a clinical team and collaborates with colleagues to determine team goals and objectives, participates in the evaluation of team effectiveness, and solves problems and shares responsibilities. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are required.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy from an accredited university
  • Membership with the Nova Scotia College or Physiotherapists (Provincial licensing body)
  • Annual Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation certification (BCLS)
  • Previous experience in an Ambulatory Care or Community Health Team setting considered an asset
  • Previous experience in exercise prescription, self-management strategies, physical activity recommendations pertaining to persons living with chronic health conditions, particularly cardiorespiratory health conditions.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of Social Determinants of Health
  • Previous experience with navigating patients to appropriate physical activity resources an asset
  • Experience in motivational interviewing and facilitating health behaviour change is an asset
  • Understands Adult Education principles
  • Demonstrated accountability
  • Strong client focus and ability to build solid client/practitioner relationships
  • Demonstrated collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation
  • Demonstrates a keen interest in evidence-informed complex, collaborative care

About You Continued
  • Thorough knowledge of Physiotherapy practice, with an interest in program development and evaluation skills around post COVID
  • Competent in delivering patient care virtually
  • Demonstrated planning, organization and time management skills
  • Commitment to promoting a culture that supports safety, ethical practices and organizational health
  • Annual Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System training and certification (WHMIS)
  • Evidence or malpractice insurance is required before the Nova Scotia College or Physiotherapists will issue a license for practice.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Compensation and Incentives

$ $42.89 Hourly
