Fraser Health is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse to provide psychiatric nursing care services to clients in an acute psychiatric crisis or situational crisis.
About the JobThis is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong commitment to providing person-centered care and promoting recovery-oriented care.
Key Responsibilities- Intervene to stabilize clients in acute psychiatric or situational crisis using supportive counseling and therapeutic interventions.
- Screen potential admissions for appropriateness using screening tools and admission criteria policies and procedures.
- Provide assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for assigned clients.
- Collaborate with Program Coordinator and Psychiatrist to ensure clients receive appropriate care and treatment.
- Identify clients' mental and medical needs and make clinical decisions based on these assessments.
- Make necessary arrangements for hospital admission or medical emergencies.
- Empower clients in their illness or life stressors through education and counseling.
- Ensure consistent safe care by completing and reviewing client-focused care plans.
- Provide discharge support to clients by providing community resource information and assisting in decision-making.
- Ensure clients receive necessary medication or treatment by obtaining and following prescriber's orders.
- Collaborate with primary therapist/case manager and doctors to ensure client treatment interventions are appropriate.
- Ensure client safety by reporting AWOL clients to police, Program Coordinator, primary therapist/case manager, and family.
- Communicate facility concerns and client issues to the team, verbally and in writing.
- Facilitate client recreation activity by connecting them with community resources and encouraging participation in facility recreation activity programs.
- Contribute to interprofessional team participation by setting priorities and assigning and delegating tasks to care staff.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Graduation from an approved Nursing Program with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- One year of recent, related mental health and substance use experience in an acute/sub-acute/community setting.
- Standard First Aid and CPR level C (or equivalent).
- Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License and access to personal vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage.
