Assistant Professor in Neuro Bioengineering
The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track) in the School of Biomedical Engineering. This position will have a membership as a Core Member with the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health, a UBC Senate-approved centre supported by the UBC Faculty of Medicine.
The School of Biomedical Engineering is a partnership between the Faculties of Medicine and Applied Science, acting as a nucleus for education and training, research, and innovation in biomedical engineering. Its vision is to transform health care outcomes through unconstrained exploration of the best possible integrative solutions across engineering, medicine, and biology.
The successful candidate will lead an independent research program with potential to achieve international recognition for leadership and research excellence in their field. Key areas of interest include:
- Cellular and molecular engineering approaches to neurological disorders
- Engineering cellular or molecular systems that recapitulate neural function
- Neural or brain organoids and their integration with electro-mechanical systems
- Artificial intelligence in neuroscience
- Related areas
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. or equivalent, have a strong training background in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, neuro-engineering, neurobiology and engineering, stem cell engineering, and/or related fields. They will also have demonstrated ability in scholarly activity with experience in collaborative and convergent research at the interface of engineering and molecular/cellular neuroscience.
The successful candidate will also have demonstrated evidence of success, or potential ability for success, in teaching and the ability to effectively communicate and interact with diverse and divergent perspectives and behaviours.
