We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at William Osler Health System. As a Histology Specialist, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the examination, processing, and analysis of histological specimens.
Key Responsibilities- Specimen Accessioning and Investigation: Accurately accessions and investigates non-conformances on irretrievable specimens prior to processing and according to laboratory protocols.
- Grossing and Dissection: Examines, describes, dissects, and measures small and small/big gross surgical specimens of varying tissue types.
- Embedding and Sectioning: Embeds processed tissue, checks embedding log, and investigates errors/discrepancies.
- Microtomy and Slide Preparation: Cuts paraffin wax tissue blocks using microtome, makes, labels, stains, and cover slips slides as appropriate.
- Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Operates and maintains IHC stainers and other equipment.
- Frozen Sections: Performs frozen sections as required.
- Slide Correlation and Archiving: Correlates cut slides to tissue blocks and files and archives slides and blocks.
- Assistance with MLA Duties: Assists with MLA duties as required.
- Certification and Registration: Medical laboratory technologist with CSMLS certification and current registration with CMLTO in good standing.
- Experience and Skills: Minimum five years recent experience in general histology in a hospital setting, immunohistochemistry experience preferred, ability to distinguish colors, comfortable dealing with surgical and autopsy specimens and the deceased, strong medical terminology, strong multi-tasking, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, excellent organizational and communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, proven ability to be a team player, able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Computer Skills: Knowledge of LabLion, Meditech, Paradigm, and other Microsoft Office computer systems would be an asset.

- Availability: Excellent attendance, punctuality, and work ethic, required to travel between and work at all Osler sites.
