Commercial Operations Manager Commercial Operations Manager

Cenovus is seeking a highly skilled Commercial Operations Manager to lead our Commercial Operations team. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, and value-optimized movement of Crude Oil and Diluent products to and from hubs throughout domestic and international markets.

About this Opportunity

This is a key leadership role that requires a strong commercial and operational understanding of North American commodity transportation networks. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a multi-disciplinary team, responsible for commodity movements between assets and to end market, while ensuring delivery commitments are met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team, responsible for commodity movements between assets and to end market, while ensuring delivery commitments are met.
  • Identify, evaluate, and complete trade strategies that enable operational performance and drive commercial value.
  • Run crude oil and diluent transportation and storage contracts across diverse geographical regions.
  • Quickly assess and communicate operational risks and mitigations while making or influencing informed decisions.
  • Identify, strategically prioritize, and commercially manage execution of business activity, supply disruptions and asset optimization with crucial team members.
  • Accountable for operationalizing commercial contracts and project management.
  • External senior point of contact with pipelines, terminals, and other 3rd party customers related to commercial matters.
  • Partner closely with Commercial Operations and Trading to optimize new and existing contracts, ensuring Cenovus acquires efficient value from our marketing activities while reducing risk.
  • Contributes to the development of Downstream and functional area strategy and interprets into key initiatives.
  • Identify emerging issues affecting Cenovus's strategic plans.
Requirements
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Minimum 12-15 years of confirmed experience combined with formal education in Business, Economics, Engineering or related subject area.
  • Extensive commercial experience in Crude and Diluent logistics and previous trading experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to implement business development strategy from concept to execution.
  • Extensive experience in Energy Trading Risk Management, (ETRM), system implementation and ongoing delivery.
  • Commercial and operational understanding of North American commodity transportation networks.
  • Detailed understanding of scheduling and trade cycles across multiple commodities.
  • Validated understanding of commercial value drivers and ability to demonstrate these in commercial arrangements.
  • Established relationships with industry and key third party terminals and pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of contract language, tariffs and regulations; ability to build and translate into optimization opportunities.
  • Knowledge of standard processes for front, middle and back-office groups at a trading organization operating under an exposure and PnL environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring of successful individuals with an emphasis on implementing change management.
