Reporting to the Mine Superintendent, the Mine Captain will oversee the day-to-day tasks associated with underground mining activities. He will ensure operational efficiency with a constant concern for health, safety and environmental standards, and will see to the application of company policies. Based at the Windfall site, located in the Nord-du-Québec region, he/she will be called upon to work a schedule of 8 days on, 6 days off. Transportation, lodging and meals provided.

Tasks and responsibilities
Assist the Project-Mine Superintendent in establishing and maintaining a quality team capable of meeting company requirements;In collaboration with the engineering department, establish daily, weekly and monthly targets and set priorities for achieving them;Directs and coordinates the work of employees in the area;Supervise, direct and coordinate the monitoring of underground mine activities and supervisors;Work with contractor managers;Interact with underground contractors to ensure compliance with health and safety, work quality and priorities;Submit daily reports on underground operations to supervisor;Work closely with the engineering department to establish site operating methods;Take part in task observations in collaboration with the safety and security department (carry out prevention activities);Participate in and lead safety meetings, safety meetings, accident investigations and analyses, and follow up on recommendations, in addition to taking part in or carrying out planned inspections;Resolve work-related difficulties and recommend measures;See to it that the requested corrections are carried out;Regularly check the condition of equipment and ensure that repairs are carried out on a priority basis;Participate in the selection of new equipment and the establishment of operating procedures to improve productivity and health and safety;Identify material, tooling and equipment requirements for underground operations;Maintain a team with sufficient numbers and skills to effectively meet the needs of underground activities;Manage conflicts when necessary and manage or assist in the management of disciplinary measures;Evaluate employee performance, identify training needs and develop strategies for employee development;Actively participate in employee selection;Be safety conscious and maintain a work environment based on mutual respect, fairness and integrity;Report any situation that could affect the occupational health and safety of personnel or the physical integrity of installations;Comply with health and safety and environmental policies and rules at all times, and ensure that all staff comply with these rules;Carry out any other tasks related to the position of Mine Captain that are relevant to the success of the project.

Qualifications required
A college diploma in mining technology or a vocational diploma in ore extraction;Minimum 8 years' experience in the mining industry;Minimum of (5) years of supervisory experience;Experience working with First Nations (an asset);Bilingualism (French and English), (an asset);A valid class 5 driver's license;Hold an explosives permit; Modular training for mineworkers 1 to 7 and 10.

Technical skills
Knowledge of occupational health and safety laws and regulations specific to mining, as well as mining and ground control methods;Know the equipment and materials to be used in mines;Knowledge of supervision formulas; Good knowledge of Office suite software (Excel, Outlook, etc.).

Basic skills
Strong leadership skills;Excellent team player, tactful and politically astute;Be adaptable and open to change and constructive feedback;Good organizational skills and ability to recognize priorities;Be autonomous, have initiative and be able to handle several files simultaneously;Good communication skills; Demonstrate rigor, ethics and integrity;Demonstrate a rigorous approach to health and safety and environmental matters.
