About the Role

The Public Service Commission, Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Hatchery Supervisor to join our team. As a key member of our Fisheries and Aquaculture department, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Fraser's Mills Fish Hatchery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage Hatchery Operations: Oversee the care and maintenance of hundreds of thousands of fish and over one million eggs, monitor fish health, and administer therapeutic treatments as needed.
  • Supervise Staff: Directly supervise six hatchery technicians, including shift scheduling, training, and general human resource requirements.
  • Develop Outreach Initiatives: Work closely with the Manager of Fisheries Enhancement to develop outreach initiatives and promote sport fishery enhancement opportunities.
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all relevant regulatory and program requirements are met through effective stewardship.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Science or related field, or Master's degree in Science with relevant experience.
  • Experience: Six years of experience working with freshwater fisheries aquaculture production systems and fisheries enhancement, or four years of experience with a Master's degree.
  • Skills: Familiarity with regulations, policies, and practices related to recreational fisheries; effective communication and interpersonal skills; solid analytical skills; and experience with aquaculture systems and equipment.
