Health Care Worker, Maximum and Multi-level Security Units, Forensic Psychiatric A2

We are seeking a skilled Health Care Worker to join our team in the Maximum and Multi-level Security Units, Forensic Psychiatric A2. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient care and support to individuals with complex mental health and substance use challenges.
Key Responsibilities- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and families, providing support and care in accordance with established care plans.
- Provide personal care to patients, including bathing, showering, grooming, dressing, and assisting with oral hygiene and toileting needs.
- Perform nursing care functions, including ensuring patients are aware of their Kardex, risk triggers, and signature behaviors, and communicating reports and records in the patient chart.
- Respond to call bells and alarms, and assist as necessary, while also being prepared to respond to emergent situations by calling the appropriate code and assisting the care team.
- Monitor patient progress and behavioral changes, reporting significant observations to the Registered Nurse or designate.
- Utilize mechanical aids to transport patients, provide assistance with positioning, lifting, and transferring patients, and accompany patients as required.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment for patients and staff, including making beds, applying side-rail requirements, collecting patient urine samples, and reporting incidents and equipment problems.
- Prepare rooms for discharge cleaning or next patient, and assist with room setup, removing bed linen and forwarding it to laundry, and obtaining strong sheets for seclusion rooms.
- Participate in team discussions and training sessions, including annual core training competencies, and attend meetings to provide and receive information, and provide input regarding improvements to patient care and the efficient and safe operation of the area.
- Grade 10, or graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant or Care Attendant program, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, deal with others effectively, and organize work.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position, and ability to operate related equipment.
- Commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments, including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, In Plain Sight, BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, and United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
