Job Description The Parking Facilities Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing daily and routine facilities maintenance, testing and basic troubleshooting of parking equipment and devices, ensuring all parking and traffic control devices at UBC are functioning properly. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks, including:
  • Performing daily routine and complex maintenance and repair of all parking equipment and traffic control devices on campus.
  • Performing testing, diagnosing and troubleshooting for all equipment and devices.
  • Configuring hardware settings and writing hardware upgrades on EEPROMs and Flash memory and programming pay parking machines using laptops and handheld devices.
  • Recording and reporting any equipment, devices and facility deficiencies.
  • Maintaining appropriate inventory levels of parking pay equipment, signage and related supplies and informing supervisor of restocking or operational requirements.
  • Installing and maintaining campus parking signage and decals.
  • Installing, maintaining and producing campus traffic control devices.
  • Ensuring clean, safe and functional facilities.
  • Performing facility inspections, custodial duties and litter removal.
  • Ensuring the safety of Parking Facilities during inclement weather.
  • Ensuring adequate lighting in Parking Facilities by replacing lightbulbs as needed.
  • Responding to trouble calls.
  • Collecting cash and downloading operational data from parking pay equipment on a daily basis and securing collections as required.
  • Processing daily cash collected from the pay machines, meters, office, parkades, impounds and preparing daily deposits and preparing and maintaining floats for office, parkades and special events.
  • Verifying monies collected as not counterfeit and reporting cases of counterfeit bills and coins to appropriate authorities as soon as detected.
  • Participating in special parking events, assisting with parking operations and customer service as required.
  • Providing assistance with wayfinding, parking and UBC information to patrons and visitors.
Responsibilities The Parking Facilities Maintenance Worker will work under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager and will be responsible for:
  • Working within well-defined guidelines and procedures, exercising some judgment in establishing priorities and carrying tasks through to completion.
  • Providing quality service to all user groups within the community in a courteous, patient manner.
  • Using Lean problem-solving tools and methodologies to continuously improve business and operational performance.
  • Effectively using MS Word, MS Excel and web browsers at a basic level.
  • Working effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
Requirements The successful candidate will have:
  • High School graduation and Graduation from a technical college or institute.
  • Valid B.C. Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and physical principles related to equipment repair.
  • 2 years relevant experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications The successful candidate will have:
