What can I expect to do in this role?In this role, you will:
- Provide expert advice, support and coordination on the application of provincial natural resource management policy, regulation and legislation in the context of meeting the Crown's legal obligations with respect to Indigenous communities and organizations within the region
- Support and/or lead consultation and negotiations with Indigenous communities as it pertains to natural resource management program implementation
- Coordinate the regional implementation of Ministry programs and initiatives related to natural resource management for Indigenous people
- Participate in policy development initiatives and on multi-disciplinary project teams
- Provide advice and analysis on ministry policy and program outcomes associated with Indigenous programs/policies
- You can effectively communicate and liaise with a diverse group of partners including Indigenous communities and organizations.
- You can prepare and deliver a variety of deliverables (ex. briefing materials and presentations) tailored to various audiences both internally and externally to government using computer software (ex. word processing, presentation, spreadsheet).
- You have developed relationship management skills to maintain and foster partnerships and gain buy-in of Ministry objectives.
- You can lead collaborative information seeking efforts to ensure sound advice in relation to critical issues.
- You can effectively facilitate and negotiate to achieve Indigenous engagement in natural resource planning and management.
- You have highly developed political acuity, tact and discretion to manage issues of sensitive and contentious nature.
- You can interpret policy, regulation and legislation to ensure the Ministry complies with its responsibilities, commitments and legal requirements with respect to Indigenous policy/program direction.
- You can assess data and information to develop evidence-based recommendations.
- You can evaluate and communicate the implications of current and proposed natural resource management policies and recommendations.
- You have knowledge and awareness of Indigenous history, culture, treaties and relevant issues including the intersect of the Crown's legal duty to consult, Indigenous and Treaty rights, inter-governmental relations with natural resource management.
- You have knowledge of the policies, legislation, trends and issues affecting Indigenous peoples of Ontario.
- You have knowledge of natural resource management principles and best practices.
