Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Behavior Technician for the Center for Adult Autism Services (RCAAS). Under the direction and frequent supervision of a Behavior Analyst or Director, the Behavior Technician for the Intensive Outpatient Clinic (IOC) at the RCAAS provides direct service to individuals with autism across the areas of behavior reduction and skill acquisition goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Helps patients with activities to ensure engagement using detailed procedures.
  • Provides direct care to adults with autism under the supervision of the behavior analyst.
  • Follows written protocol to ensure safety and success on and off site.
  • Chaperones individuals to daily activities and conducts routine activities.
  • Uses behavioral data to monitor progress in relation to program participant goals.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school/vocational school education or equivalent and 40 hours of formal training in Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • A minimum of 3 months of prior experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in an ABA setting.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Current certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) or commensurate experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with individuals with autism.
  • Competent communication skills.
  • May require a driver’s license with two years of driving experience.
  • Requires ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and web-based data collection.
  • Must be able to complete crisis management and be physically capable of safely providing crisis management techniques.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • The Behavior Technician may work with patients with severe challenging behavior.
  • Must be able to complete crisis management and be physically active throughout the day.
  • The position requires frequent movement, use of limbs, and good manual dexterity.
