Position Overview

Location

This person will work on a large transit rail project in Ottawa, ON.

Responsibilities
  • Be responsible for ensuring project meets/exceeds financial objectives by overseeing and monitoring each stage of development.
  • Coordinates daily/weekly meetings with other superintendents and project engineers to develop project means/methods, schedule contracting needs, and long lead delivery times.
  • Manage electrical field operations and work sequence in conjunction with the Project Manager.
  • Oversee and approve monthly job cost updates and quarterly cash flow projections. Review, approve, and negotiate change orders.
  • Establish work plans and staffing needs for each phase of the project, work closely with Project Manager and HR team to manage relationship with staff and craft employees.
  • Form and lead an effective project management team, define, and delegate management responsibilities and set goals.
  • Resolve any unexpected technical difficulties and other problems that may arise.
  • Be an effective leader and communicate with department leads and other project personnel regarding work scopes.
  • Ensure electricians and engineers understand and execute work as required by client/project specifications.
  • Ensure safety, quality, and production is always maintained.
  • Responsible for project closeout: securing loose ends by finishing paperwork, obtaining retainages, supporting supervisors, and expediting claims.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field is an asset.
  • At least 5 years of work experience managing electrical aspects of commercial construction projects with a proven track record of successful outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of project scheduling, cost control, project owner specifications, engineering drawings, and other project documents/reports.
  • The ability to work successfully both independently and as a team to meet project goals and deadline.
  • Strong work ethic - willing to do what it takes to get the job done the first time.
  • Good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.

Base Compensation: $115,000/yr - $125,000/yr (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
