Reporting Line: Business Development Manager

Job Description:

UM6P Canada aims to develop activities and carry out projects at the heart of UM6P's strategic issues, and in which UM6P has strong expertise in supporting African economic and social development. These include agriculture, mining, artificial intelligence, energy and renewable energies, and sustainable development in the broadest sense. UM6P Canada's implementation project has 4 main focuses: the development of a doctoral research activity in Canada on research topics in which UM6P has strong expertise, the development of an Executive Education activity, the development of innovation and the creation of start-ups in Canada on projects at the heart of these strategic issues, as well as the development of a consulting and business development activity in its main areas of intervention.

Working closely with General Management and the various Business Units, the Project Manager's mission will be to support UM6P Canada in its development and in achieving its objectives. Given UM6P Canada's mission, this position requires strong skills in project management as well as in institutional relations, external relations and partnership development, with proven experience in Canada in one or more of these areas in connection with Africa and its development.

In addition to the line management, the Project Manager will be required to contribute to a number of scientific projects in coordination with other departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify the various communities of interest for UM6P Canada's mission (researchers, professors, students, entrepreneurs, organizations) and define and propose the policy, strategic orientations and the road map to create authentic and sustainable bridges of exchange and collaboration that create value for all. Particular emphasis will be placed on African communities in Canada, in line with UM6P Canada's mission.
  • Manage and coordinate assigned projects, particularly those related to the assigned scope, including planning, implementation and monitoring of project progress.
  • Work closely with internal and external partners to create synergies and maximize impact in line with the structure's ambitions and mission.
  • Develop a knowledge base on assigned projects to be updated on a regular basis and develop related performance indicators.
  • Prepare regular progress reports and communicate effectively with project stakeholders.
  • Carry out in-depth analyses of assigned areas to identify potential partnership opportunities and make proposals to implement recommendations in line with UM6P Canada's mission.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders to understand their needs, anticipate their expectations and propose innovative solutions.
  • Maintain an active watch on the assigned perimeters, the related dynamics and be a force for proposals on how UM6P Canada could be a positive contributor in line with its mission and values.
  • Actively participate in various cross-functional projects and their implementation.
  • Participate in the promotion and representation of UM6P Canada at external events and functions related to the UM6P Canada mission.


Qualifications :

  • Bachelor/Master degree with a strong education Curriculum, ideally in political science, business administration, economic and social science or equivalent. A PhD/ MBA would be an asset.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in the development of international relations, partnerships or equivalent with increased knowledge of Africa, its challenges and potential.
  • Confirmed interest in Africa and its development.
  • Established network of contacts within the target community in Canada and proven ability to position the UM6P Canada offer and promote it to the appropriate targets.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to manage cross-functional projects, ability to represent and lead networks, and ability to grasp economic and strategic issues.
  • Excellent analytical and synthesis skills, ability to make proposals, curiosity, autonomy, rigor.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Strong service orientation and team spirit required.
  • Fluent in French and English.
