We are in search of an Indigenous Engagement Specialist to remotely join our clients team located in Edmonton, Alberta. This role is central to our clients operations and communications, offering an opportunity to engage with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis-led organizations and partners. The position involves developing strategies for meaningful and culturally responsive interactions, leading engagement efforts, and working across various teams to advance our clients Indigenous engagement. With an initial term of just under 6-months, this position is open to candidates Canada-wide.


Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement approaches for meaningful and culturally responsive interactions with Indigenous-led organizations and experts, based on trust, mutual respect, and reciprocity
  • Collaborate with senior and cross-functional teams to integrate Indigenous engagement in operational work plans
  • Establish and maintain strong, respectful relationships with Indigenous leaders and organizations through networking opportunities
  • Identify potential areas for collaboration that benefit all parties, respecting a distinctions-based approach
  • Work with pan-Canadian organizations to share insights on relationships and learning with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis, and partner on initiatives where appropriate
  • Prepare meeting plans, organize outreach, and prepare written materials to support effective engagements, ensuring all communication materials are culturally responsive and appropriate
  • Support the Governance and Operations branch in developing processes and policies that ensure planning and staffing approaches are underpinned by cultural capability and cultural safety
  • Assist the Data & Planning branch in establishing and maintaining relationships with First Nations, Inuit, and Metis partners on matters of health workforce data, modelling and building data capacity, while respecting Indigenous data sovereignty
  • Support knowledge translation to action work by creating bridges with Indigenous organizations to share leading practices
  • Lead, plan, and coordinate learning opportunities for staff to establish a learning environment that enhances the organization’s collective cultural capability, including learning and understanding how to facilitate sessions that are respectful of Indigenous knowledge, traditions, and protocols.


What you bring:

  • Proven experience in Indigenous community engagement or related field; ideally in the public health sector
  • Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and community relations
  • Proficiency in brand awareness strategies and campaign planning
  • Proving experience working in communications considered an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with diverse groups
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of ethical engagement practices and principles
  • Willingness to travel as required for community engagement events
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
