Building Automation Systems Instrumentation Technician (Senior)


Job Summary


The Building Automation Systems Instrumentation Technician, reporting to the Building Automation Operations Manager, plays a key role in managing projects, performing maintenance, and responding to service calls. Working under the guidance of the Operations Manager, Project Managers, and supported by Service Coordinators and Administrative staff, this position is integral to fulfilling contracts, contributing to projects, and ensuring client satisfaction.


Primary Responsibilities


The technician will undertake a wide range of responsibilities, including:


  • Ensuring adherence to Health and Safety Policies.
  • Inspecting and evaluating both new and existing systems and equipment.
  • Assisting with quotations and providing take-offs.
  • Setting up, starting, and troubleshooting network systems such as IP and RS-485.
  • Conducting point-to-point verification of inputs and outputs (I/O).
  • Configuring, optimizing, and troubleshooting systems and implementing graphical user interfaces (GUIs).
  • Cataloging and submitting detailed commissioning reports.
  • Performing wiring checks, system start-ups, and calibrations using provided tools and software.
  • Operating and configuring PC workstations, user interfaces, and IP networking devices.
  • Troubleshooting both software and hardware issues.
  • Maintaining accurate daily, weekly, and monthly documentation as required.
  • Participating in ongoing training to enhance job-related skills and contributing to the training of colleagues.
  • Following service schedules while being prepared to respond to emergencies, including after-hours calls.
  • Ensuring workspaces are clean, orderly, and safe after completing tasks.
  • Communicating any significant information affecting customers or employee relations to supervisors.

Qualifications


Education and Experience:


  • A College Diploma in Electromechanical Engineering Technology or a related field.
  • Proven experience with:
  • Building Automation Systems.
  • IP networking and low-voltage control systems.
  • Mechanical and HVAC systems.
  • Electromechanical devices and pneumatic controls.


Technical Skills:


  • Familiarity with programming tools such as Niagara Workbench, Schneider Electric EcoStruxure, FinBuilder, Honeywell Spyder Tools, Johnson Controls PCT, American Automatrix Engineering Centre, and Distech Controls GFX.
  • Adaptability to new software and interfaces.
  • Proficiency in computer operations and network configuration.
