Role Purpose/ Summary:

The General Manager at our AgMedica facility will lead all facets of facility operations, with full oversight of departments including Cultivation, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain. This leader will drive a data-driven management approach, leveraging KPIs to enhance performance, resource allocation, and operational efficiency. Supported by a corporate operations team, and working in conjunction with the quality department, the General Manager will ensure day-to-day functions align with regulatory standards, and meet sales targets, while managing budgets and controlling costs to maximize overall impact

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee all operations and business activities to ensure they produce the desired results and are consistent with the overall strategy and mission of Decibel
  • Scheduled reporting of overall KPIs, including facility activities, to the broader Decibel team
  • Identify areas of opportunity to improve quality, productivity, thereby improving efficiency and profitability.
  • Generate, analyze and review production reports daily, ensuring that scheduling meets pre-defined requirements.
  • Adherence and execution of annual facility operating goals, budgets and strategic initiatives as agreed upon with the executive management team
  • Conduct regular production meetings and liaise with plant employees to ensure any issues are addressed proactively and promptly
  • Administer daily operations; oversee and manage all cultivation, processing, packaging, housekeeping and security teams, working closely with department managers to ensure schedule compliance
  • Have foresight to recognize potential hazards, production problems and contamination risks; proactively trouble shoot, problem solve and complete projects with appropriate direction and feedback
  • Work with the Quality Assurance team, following their direction and guidance of checks and balances for quality, efficacy, and safety; minimizing contamination and waste of product
  • Lead and motivate employee production and engagement, through regular feedback and weekly meetings, and just as importantly by working directly with the employees and confirming they have the resources necessary to ensure personal and company success
  • Advise on the importance of a clean working environment, instilling an attitude of high standards of cleanliness in all employees and adherence to standard operating procedures
  • Hire, train and manage department employees; comply with all HR policies including confidentiality and non-disclosure; establish development plans for employees with succession planning for key roles, administering regular performance reviews
  • Support new product launch activities for new cannabis categories.
  • Support new or changes to packaging and labelling.
  • Work with senior management and a diverse cross-functional team. Employ professional and clear communication practices to maintain a positive and progressive atmosphere across Administrative, Quality Assurance and Sales and Marketing departments
  • Master several tasks and timelines at once while being organized and having attention to detail

Qualifications:

  • University degree in engineering or business
  • Six Sigma or MBA designation considered an asset
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience managing a large commercial operation or pharmaceutical facility
  • Proven financial acumen with outstanding organizational and leadership skills
  • Direct working knowledge of inventory management systems with experience managing budgets and vendor relationships
  • Experience in and knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with cannabis or other sensitive commercial crops is considered an asset.
  • Capability to respond quickly to operational challenges, resource shortages, or unexpected issues. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills are essential
  • Must be bondable and pass a Health Canada Security Clearance.

Key competencies:

  • Manage and implement all operating and production aspects for the company, advising on the proper tools and techniques as well as assisting in creating a vision for success
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills with employees and vendors; includes requiring one to maintain the profitability of the department while controlling expenses
  • Understand and advise on various operational techniques for cannabis production, and enhance quality, efficacy and safety of commercial scale operations, while practicing waste and cost management
  • Effectively employ the software systems for managing inventory control, fulfilment timing, and monitoring production
